Crye earns first BCRA midget win in Placerville debut
July 11th, 2008
Gridley, Calif. – Quintin Crye, a 19 year-old driver from Gridley, Calif., scored his first career BCRA Midget win Saturday at Placerville Speedway. Crye scored the win coming from the 11th position in his debut appearance at the speedway.
“It’s a pretty good feeling,” Crye said. “The car was just hooking up.”
Crye has spent much of the season preparing for his future career in the NASCAR Camping World Series and had not driven since early April.
It didn’t take long for him to shake off the rust, as he battled his way to third place in his heat race.
In the feature, Crye said the track was “a lot easier to navigate” than other tracks on the dirt midget circuit.
“The closest thing I could compare it to would be Hanford,” Crye said. “It didn’t drive like a short track and the groove with the middle to high line.”
Crye jumped to the top at the start and was quickly into the top-five.
Persistent lapped traffic forced Crye to fall to the middle groove, which he found to his liking.
After taking the lead, Crye survived a spinning lapped car and two restarts to hold onto the lead.
The big win at the quarter-mile speedplant will give Crye some momentum as heads into the biggest challenge of his young career.
Crye will be transitioning into the NASCAR Camping World Series West, with a test at the winding Infineon Raceway planned for June 10th. Crye is also currently scheduled to compete in the race there on June 21st as
part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend.

Gridley, CA 19 year-old Quintin Crye of Gridley, CA made his first USAC Midget start of the 2008 racing season, Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield, CA. Despite strong qualifying and heat race performances, Crye was forced to retire from the feature with mechanical problems.
Crye guided the Lucas Oil-sponsored mount to tenth in qualifying against the field of 21 cars, setting him third on the grid in heat one.
A late race restart allowed him to move into second and within striking range of heat race winner and World of Outlaws star Jason Meyers.
In the 30-lap feature, Crye went to work, starting ninth and advancing forward fifth in the opening laps.
While pushing the car on the edge, Crye got into the wall on lap six, forcing him to fall back to the 12th position. On the next caution, Crye corrected a tightness problem with a shock adjustment and was able to move all the back up to sixth.
Suddenly, the car failed to respond off of turn four, and Crye was retired for the evening.
Attrition allowed Crye to record a 13th place finish.
Crye is currently tentatively scheduled to follow the USAC Western States Midget Series dirt calendar, with other news of his 2008 racing plans to be announced soon.
